Budapestian musician and cartoonist Robert Bereznyei has been crafting his own unique brand of synth-based electronic music since the early 2000s. His work is characterized by intricate, textural sound design paired with emotive melodies and soundscapes, covering a plethora of moods, playful to brooding.

Before Thin Drum, Tigrics’ most recent official release was 2007’s moody Synki on Highpoint Lowlife. Since then, he has been unofficially releasing home recordings online and amongst his close friends. When approached by Chicago’s Kind Gesture Records in 2014, both parties were excited to present Tigrics’ vinyl debut. After a year of writing, recording, and pruning, Thin Drum was ready to be pressed.

Aesthetically, Thin Drum shows off Robert’s versatility as an artist, delivering the range of his personality. The album opens with WARP-esque “Daymonster”, a glitchy time-lapse of a spring displayed through an LCD screen. “Friend’s House” is a driving, yet weightless tune, a tapestry woven with percussive textures and yearning synths. The ambient “Qip” takes you down the darker, more claustrophobic corridors of Tigrics’ music. “My Version” ends the album with a bit of sunshine, reminiscent of Saturday morning cartoons on acid. Thin Drum is both a brilliant new step forward for Tigrics and a perfect introduction to his work for those unfamiliar.
